Wiping the Past

Stroke the wax,
Trace the images,
Left by time’s stylus,
Frozen in fatty-drippings.
Soft finger heat,
Memories, gently blurring,
Smooth stroked forgetfulness.

i like the idea of memory being like wax, malable.

Superb imagery for the subtle erosion of all our memories. Most people tend to smooth the past to shades of fondness. Not always. I am close to someone whose memories tend to hightlight the contours of what was not so pleasant. If we are aware of this process of smoothing, does that aid attempts to reconstruct reality . . . like for example, knowing a journalist's particualar bias helps us filter for the actualities in his/her account of things? I love this poem.

The use of such few words to convey so much, simply "blows me away"...
I "need" so many of them...

Memory, a precious, most accomodating gift.

Enjoyed reading. I like to be provoked into serious thought.

Thank you for your visit and, few words :)
