Around and About

Along a nearby street
A mother readies her children
For school…If not for life

Along a nearby street
Is a girl selling relief
One man at a time

Along a nearby street
Stands a man selling escape
One bag at a time

And who are we?
To assume, presume and judge?
Do we have a stone to throw?

Exquisite tight images.
Question: Is there any thing in the world that you think someone should not do, no matter what they themselves think about it?

Gosh..Hard question...
easy question...

gosh.

Right, my 30 seconds of thinking are up on this one, so...

I feel, that individuals have a right to do unto themselves whatever they so choose...I believe consenting acts between multiple people are also a right, be it two or two thousand...
I feel coercion or force or demands are wrong. To persuade is also dubious in my book...
Inflicting self on others without consent is wrong.

But humans will always do such things to each other.

The second part of your question throws and interesting light on the first part...Surely their opinion of the matter will dictate what they do about it regardless?
If some one is anti-drinking, they won't drink...they probably could drink, but have chosen at some point not to. This will apply to many things, if not all things...

I shall have a good long think about this Ish, and might reply again soon...

:)

Good to hear from you :)

I see you are not a thorough going moral relativist. But then I can't remember meeting anyone who really is, despite protests to the contrary.
So is there ultimately a place for judgment? Not from us I'll grant you. ("Let he who is without sin throw the first stone ...")
I really like this poem because it is so aptly and minimaly stated and because of the quetions you raise.

moral relativist...
well, yes, I am essentially.
I'm aware that morals are created by the climate of the current society...if we lived in brazil I could marry at 14 and have sex. yet in some american states i'd have to be 21...(i might be wrong, it's not something I've studied) Over here, I have to be 16.
This applies to many things, if not all. I'm not sure there are universal morals, a word of god if you like, after all, myans happily sacrificed to appeased the gods, we, would quail at such a task.

People adapt, and oddly most people try and get on with their neighbours, so communities will develope social mores, which become our morals and philosophy, it becomes our way of life. our path to walk...We are stubborn and find it hard to shake these things.
yet we will, and we do.
everything is in a state of flux.

Judgement? yes, there is judgement, and whilst I firmly believe those who do judge should think about their own "sins" before judging others, I really believe the only judge that matters and the only one to truely punish is SELF.

Those that choose to judge others in my opinion are usually flawed.

I know I judge, I have opinion, I have thought wrongly of folk, but
I know I'm not fit to pass judgement on them. So I keep my thoughts to myself...usually...

If people seek to be judges or seek power or seek positions of influence, or when given them abuse them, well, they should not be given the "power"...

Probably not worded too well, but I'm sure you get the idea...

Anyway...what the hell defines society? :)

I wish I could hold a train of thought long enough :)

So in answer...

No there is no place for judgement, not from man, and there is no god (imo) ...
But maybe that's why we made gods, to ultimately take that onus from us, or to give us the excuse for being wrong...

Self. in the beginning and at the end. Self.
