All good things.
At the heart of a bustling city,
They sit at a small round table,
As flowing crowds stream about,
Sipping at steamy creamy hot chocolates,
In a café oasis of calm.
She looking not at he,
He intently at her,
Her gaze grazes his,
And she smiles – a real smile –
But it is not for him.
He returns an unacknowledged
Half smile – and thinks
“Goodbye”

Ah, I felt that one slip sideways. Beautiful progression. I felt the pang of his loss.
we all have those....the stare the smile....the fall....as always GOOD!
Beautiful and sad
A painful reminder
Like what ish said...I felt the pang of his loss...

Well captured, that moment. I liked the shape the poem made.
"He returns an unacknowledged

Did he have any choice? I like this!

It's always sad when one person cares more than the other; and when one moves on. Great description of this situation in such a few words.
Good grief--knock me out of my chair why don't you? Between your posts and your comments on my blog you keep me on the floor a lot with your brilliance and delivery!;)
BTW The number 47?
I like the way the "goodbye" is unsaid.
Aw, I can really for the guy in this poem... makes me want to know more about these two people...
This really hit me, it was so true, so real.
"Her gaze grazes his"
i really love this line.
Very true. Well caught.
Wow, how sad, the poor guy. It's like that song "That Lovin' Feeling," only better. Much better.
Thank you for the wonderful post.
brillo inc...perfect capture of the painful tenderness of want ;0)
Rich imagery, with an "ouch" right at the end. This combination makes some of the best poems for me.
